  • Can VoIP work over WI-FI?

    Yes. Unlike landlines, you can complete phone calls using your Wi-Fi router. Voice over Internet Protocol (Voice over IP) has error-checking into the core of every data packet. VoIP works over Wi-Fi on all your mobile devices like your laptop, tablet, or smartphone. You can take business phone calls anywhere.


    We recommend using a wired Ethernet connection, but you can certainly work remotely using just a wireless internet connection.

  • Do I need a special phone to use VoIP?

    To use Voice over IP, you need to have a phone capable of Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP).


    These phones come in two varieties:


    • Desk phones: These IP phones resemble your typical office phone, but they function over your internet service. Traditional phone lines aren't used but an Ethernet cable is connected to your switch or router.

  • Will a VoIP phone work anywhere?

    In theory, a VoIP phone will work anywhere you have a high-speed internet connection. As long as you have an internet connection, you’ll be able to make and receive calls without being tied to one place, like a desk in your office.


    However, the result may vary based on the type of VoIP phone you have. For example, if you have a VoIP hardphone (a physical phone that looks much like a traditional desk phone), you may need to plug it in directly to a wireless router in order for it to work.


    A VoIP softphone, on the other hand, is a software program that runs on your computer or mobile device. A VoIP softphone will work as long as you are connected to a wireless internet connection, including the high-speed data available on your mobile phone, when using the VoIP phone app.
